How the 30-day reset became the law of the world

The 30-day reset is the central design pillar of EFER. It is also the central lore pillar. The in-universe reason it exists matches the gameplay reason it exists. This is by design.

The in-universe reason

At the end of the First Spark comic (chapter 6), the factions signed the Reset Pact. The Pact says: every 30 days, every claim, every reputation point, every built outpost — wiped. Factions return to their starting positions. The war begins again.

The Pact was signed because the alternative was extinction. The factions had fought themselves to a stalemate. The world was dying of the war. The Pact gave everyone a way to keep fighting without ending the world.

The Pact is enforced by the Convergence crystal. The crystal is the neutral ground. It cannot be claimed by any faction. It is where the reset originates.

The meta-design reason

In a normal MMO, the players who start on day 1 are unbeatable by week 2. The veterans log in once a week, then once a month, then not at all. The Discord goes quiet. The meta collapses.

The 30-day reset is the cure. Every 30 days, every player — veteran or new — starts the season on the same day. A new player who grinds hard for 2 weeks can out-claim a veteran who logs in once a week. The ladder is fresh every month.

Why this matches the lore

The lore says: the factions agreed to the reset because the alternative was extinction.

The gameplay says: the developer chose the reset because the alternative was a dead game.

Both are true. Both say the same thing in different languages: permanent progression kills the system that creates it.

What the reset does NOT do

The reset does not delete characters. Your Aeldric-styled Alliance paladin stays Alliance paladin. Your Korgax-styled Horde warlord stays Horde warlord. Your inventory is preserved across seasons (the only thing that persists).

What resets:
– Realm claims (you lose territory)
– Reputation (you lose standing)
– Built outposts (they get destroyed)
– Season rewards (you lose the season-end banner)

What does not reset:
– Character level
– Inventory
– Cosmetics
– Friendships (Discord is the constant)

The post-reset transition cinematic

Every 30 days, when the season rolls, the Convergence hub plays a 15-second cinematic. The crystal pulses nine times — once per Primordial Essence. The factions return to their starting positions. The war begins again.

This cinematic took 4 days to render. It is the most expensive piece of art in EFER. It is worth it.
