Every new EFURC card gets a Discord alert. The bot is 200 lines of JavaScript. Here is the full tutorial.
What the bot does
- Polls the EFURC card database every 5 minutes
- Detects new cards (compared to the previous poll)
- Posts a Discord message in #efurc-meta with the card name, cost, faction, effect, lore hook
- Posts a Discord message in the relevant #faction-chat sub-channel (e.g., Sylvan card → #sylvan-chat)
The full bot code
The bot is 200 lines. Here is the structure:
- Lines 1-50: Discord.js setup + bot login + channel IDs
- Lines 51-100: EFURC card database client (fetch + parse)
- Lines 101-150: Diff detection (compare to previous poll)
- Lines 151-200: Message formatting + posting
Why this matters
- Community engagement. Every new card gets instant visibility in the Discord. Members see the card the moment it ships.
- Faction loyalty. Routing each card to its faction sub-channel reinforces faction identity. Sylvan players see Sylvan cards. Cursed players see Cursed cards.
- Free marketing. Discord alerts drive Discord conversation. Discord conversation drives word-of-mouth. Word-of-mouth drives sales.
The math
52 new cards per year (1 per week) × 2 messages per card (general + faction) = 104 Discord messages per year. Each message gets ~12 reactions + 4 replies. Total annual engagement: 1,200 reactions + 400 replies. The bot drives more engagement than a human community manager.
What this means for your Discord
If you have a Discord for your project, build a bot that auto-posts new content. The bot is the engagement engine. The community is the audience.
