Doctrine
The Eastern Union believes in Progress — the idea that the purpose of civilization is not to maintain balance, not to preserve tradition, but to advance. To build better tools. To develop better methods. To grow, expand, and improve without end. Their expansion has been through economic integration, not conquest: build rail lines, offer cheap transport, establish factories, drive competitors out of business with better goods. The Union fights wars with factories, not armies. They outproduce everyone.
History
The eastern territories were originally a patchwork of river-valley kingdoms, fractious and constantly warring. What changed them was the discovery of Deep Iron — harder, denser, more amenable to working than normal iron. The Treaty of Three Rivers (Year 1) established shared control. In Year 312, Liu the Engineer created the first Steam-and-Piston mechanism. Within a generation, factories replaced craft workshops. Rail lines replaced merchant carts. By Year 700, the Eastern Union controlled territory from the eastern coast to the foothills of the northern mountains. They emerged from the Great Faction Wars wealthier than ever — their factories had supplied every faction.
How it plays in EFER
Constructs and spell-tech. The Eastern Union gameplay blends magic with industry: steam-powered constructs, leyline engineers, dragon riders. Mechanically: spell-tech units, balance effects, efficient resource use. The aesthetic is “magic as engineering” — every spell has a mechanical explanation, every magic system has an industrial analog. Counter-play: direct disruption of supply chains, sustained pressure on key units, and resource denial (Eastern Union factories need raw materials — cut them off).
