Why the Convergence crystal is the only safe place in EFER

Convergence is the neutral hub at the center of the EFER map. Coordinates (0, 0, 0). The only place faction-on-faction PvP is disabled.

This is by design. Multiple reasons stack.

The lore reason

The Convergence crystal is the artifact that enforces the 30-day reset. Every 30 days, it pulses nine times — once per Primordial Essence — and every faction’s claim, reputation, and built outpost is wiped. The factions return to their starting positions.

The crystal cannot be claimed by any faction. The Pact (signed in chapter 6 of The First Spark) forbids it. Any faction that tries to take the crystal breaks the Pact, and the other six factions unite to stop them. The crystal is sacred.

The design reason

The 30-day reset is the central design pillar of EFER. It is what prevents the meta from collapsing. If any faction could claim the crystal and prevent the reset, the design collapses. The crystal must be untouchable.

The gameplay reason

New players spawn at Convergence. They need a safe place to learn the game, ask questions in chat, browse the faction picker, and decide which side to join. If Convergence were a PvP zone, new players would die in the first 60 seconds and quit before they bound to a faction.

The crystal is the safe harbor. The factions cannot fight here. New players learn here.

What Convergence looks like

In EFER, Convergence is a vast circular plaza with the crystal at the center. Seven faction banners hang in a circle around it. The attunement crystal pulses softly with light. New players spawn on the platform and walk toward the crystal to begin the binding quest.

The crystal is 200 meters tall. It can be seen from any other realm. The factions use it as a navigation landmark.

What happens at Convergence

  • New players bind to their faction here
  • Players trade with each other here (no faction restriction)
  • Players chat here (global chat, not faction-scoped)
  • Players queue for contested-zone activities here
  • The 30-day reset announcement happens here (the crystal pulses + a server-wide message + a Discord auto-post if the webhook is configured)

What does NOT happen at Convergence

  • Faction-on-faction PvP
  • Building outposts
  • Claiming territory
  • Raiding

If you want to fight, you walk to the contested zone (the Horde Badlands) or another faction’s home realm (after their guards let you in, which they usually do not).

The lore in 100 words

The Pact was signed when the factions agreed the alternative was extinction. Convergence was the meeting place. The crystal was already there — an artifact no faction understood. The factions agreed: this is neutral ground, forever. Anyone who breaks the Pact answers to the other six.

The crystal pulses nine times every 30 days. The factions return to their starting positions. The war begins again. The Pact holds.

How this connects to the lore book

The First Spark comic (chapter 6) tells the full story. The Pact is canon. The Convergence crystal is canon. The lore book has the full text of the Pact, the list of signatories, and the original language.
