Lore book Chapter 4: How the Cursed learned to live with the Void

The Cursed faction used to be the sad-backstory faction. Chapter 4 changed everything.

The original framing

In every fantasy setting, the “cursed” faction is the one that got dealt a bad hand. They are tragic, they are bitter, they are angry. They are also boring.

The pivot

The pivot came when I asked: what if the Cursed are not cursed at all?

What if the Void — the substance that gives them their powers — was something they chose to absorb? Not out of desperation. Out of conviction.

Chapter 4

Chapter 4 follows Kael, a Sylvan-born healer who volunteered to absorb a shard of the Void after watching a Sylvan elder die from Void-corruption. He did it because he believed the Void could be healed, not by being purged, but by being understood.

The Cursed are not victims. They are the faction that decided the Void was worth living with.

Why this matters

Every faction in EFER has a thesis. The Sylvan chose to remember. The Clockwork chose to transcend. The Korgax chose pragmatism. The Cursed chose the Void.

Chapter 4 is what gives the Cursed faction a thesis the player can respect.
