Why most Roblox devs earn under $1,000 per year (and how to fix it)

The Roblox earnings ceiling is real. Most Roblox devs earn under $1,000 per year. The reason is not the platform — it is the monetization strategy.

The trap

Roblox’s monetization UI leads you to Gamepasses. You make a Gamepass. You advertise it in-game. You make $200/month. You think that is the ceiling.

It is not the ceiling. It is the floor.

The fix

The fix is diversification. Gamepasses are 1 route out of 7. The other 6 are: Premium payouts, dev products, merch, lore books, courses, sponsorships. Each one is a separate revenue stream.

What this got me

EFER went from $200/month (Gamepasses only) to ~$3,000/month across all 7 routes in 18 months. The breakdown:

  • Gamepasses: $200/month
  • Premium payouts: $150/month
  • Dev products: $80/month
  • TeePublic: $200/month
  • Lore book (Gumroad): $300/month
  • Steam: $4,900 one-time first week
  • Sponsorships: $0 (in pipeline)

The framework

For each route, ask: who is the buyer, what is the price, what is the conversion path? If you cannot answer those three questions, the route is not ready to ship.
