Lore book Chapter 7: How the Arctic learned to endure

The Arctic faction was the easiest faction to get wrong. Chapter 7 is what kept them from being “the slow faction.”

The problem

In every fantasy game with a frost-themed faction, that faction is slow. They turtle, they stall, they wait. Players call them “boring” and move on.

The pivot

The pivot came when I asked: what would a real cold-climate people value?

The answer was deliberation — the belief that fast action is wasteful, and that the people who think slowest survive the longest.

Chapter 7

Chapter 7 follows Senna, an Arctic hunter who refused to chase a wounded beast and instead waited three days in the snow for it to die. The chapter asks: was she wasting time, or was she the only one who understood time?

The Arctic are not slow. They are a faction that has decided deliberation is the highest form of action.

Why this matters

Chapter 7 reframes the Arctic faction the way every other chapter reframes its faction. The Arctic thesis is: speed is the enemy of mastery.
