The Eastern faction was the hardest faction to write. Chapter 6 is what saved them from being a stereotype.
The problem
Every fantasy game with an “Eastern” or “Asian-inspired” faction turns them into honor-bound samurais who speak in proverbs. That is a costume, not a faction.
The pivot
The pivot came when I asked: what would a real honor code look like after a war?
The answer was memory — the belief that every duel remembers the duelist, and that dishonoring a duel is dishonoring the dead.
Chapter 6
Chapter 6 follows Hiro, an Eastern duelist who broke the honor code by refusing to fight a dying opponent. The chapter asks: was it dishonor, or was it the highest honor?
The Eastern are not honor-blinded. They are a faction that remembers what honor cost.
Why this matters
Chapter 6 reframes the Eastern faction the way Chapter 4 reframed the Cursed. Every faction in EFER has a thesis. The Eastern thesis is: honor is what you remember, not what you perform.
