A 2,000-member Discord needs rules, moderators, and a culture. Here is the playbook that keeps EFER’s Discord safe.
The rules (pinned in #announcements)
- Be respectful. No harassment, no slurs, no personal attacks.
- No spam. No self-promo, no advertising, no link-spam.
- No NSFW. This is a fantasy-RPG server. Keep it clean.
- Use the right channels. Lore in #lore-suggestions. Meta in #efurc-meta. General chat in #general.
- Help newcomers. If a new member asks a question, answer it. Don’t ignore.
The moderation team
- 1 owner (me) — final say on everything
- 3 moderators — handle day-to-day moderation, mute spammers, delete rule violations
- 5 faction leaders — one per major faction, help moderate their #faction-chat sub-channel
The moderation tools
- AutoMod — Discord’s built-in. Blocks slurs, spam links, mass mentions.
- Carl-bot — reaction roles, welcome messages, raid protection.
- MEE6 — leveling, custom commands, mod-log.
The culture
The EFER Discord culture is faction-first, lore-second, meta-third. Members identify by faction (Sylvan, Clockwork, Aeldric, etc.), not by EFURC rank or Roblox username. The faction identity is what makes the Discord feel like a community, not a chat room.
What this means for your Discord
If you are building a Discord for your project, start with the rules, then the mods, then the culture. The culture is what makes members stay.
