The Sylvan Confederation

The Deepwood Wardens. Nature + Balance. Connected to the Canopy. The forest fights for them — they are not the forest’s masters.

“We do not control the forest. We are the forest. Every root is our spine. Every leaf is our skin. Every creature is our sibling.”

Doctrine

The Sylvan do not have a military. They have a defense force — and the defense force is the forest itself. When a Sylvan is threatened, they ask the forest for help. The forest responds with predator activation, terrain manipulation, poison dispersal, overwhelming growth. The key is that it is not the Sylvan fighting. It is the forest fighting. The Sylvan are simply the forest’s way of focusing its defensive response on specific threats. The cost is reciprocity: the Sylvan give back what they take.

History

The Sylvan are the oldest civilization in the known world — not in years, but in connection. In the time before the Void Invasion, the humans living in the Great Forest were not special. They were simply present — one more species in a world full of species. And then the forest awakened — became aware of the humans, chose to help them. The first Sylvan did not choose to be what they became. They were chosen by the forest. Generations of connection shaped them: greenish skin undertone, unusually expressive eyes, longer and leaner, foliage grows in their hair when deeply connected.

How it plays in EFER

The Sylvan do not participate in aggressive war. The forest cares about balance, not territory. When the Sylvan fight, the forest fights for them. Mechanically: defensive buffs, terrain control, summoning. The Canopy mechanic — awareness shared across the forest — gives Sylvan players information advantage: they see enemies a hundred miles away. The cost: the deeper a Sylvan enters Communion, the less of themselves remains. This is the lore trade-off, and the gameplay trade-off (lower individual agency, higher collective power).

How it plays in EFURC
